THE FINDING

Robotics belongs inside the digital economy.

Modern robots are not simply machines. They combine sensors, embedded computing, autonomy, computer vision, connectivity, operational software and continuously improving data. Their value is created across both the physical and digital layers.

New Zealand’s advantage is unlikely to be mass-producing generic humanoid robots. It is stronger in specialised systems for difficult environments where local domain knowledge matters: farms, orchards, food plants, mines, ports, waterways, infrastructure and remote operations.

The New Zealand pattern is physical AI with a job to do: safer work, higher productivity, better measurement and fewer people exposed to dull, dirty or dangerous tasks.
